Sweeping views and easy access to Old Goa, this DoubleTree by Hilton hotel has a lot going for it

Comida – the all-day diner (Samsung Galaxy S10+)

If you’re one of those travellers who is seeking the cliched Goa experience of crowded beach bars and even more crowded beaches, don’t read on. This hotel’s for the evolved Goa traveller. One who’s not compelled to post selfies on Social with hashtags like #beachholiday. The first thing that you’ll notice are the sweeping views. This hotel is perched at a slight elevation on the Kadamba Plateau with views of the Mandovi River and Divar Island.

A large number of rooms (Ask for the river-view rooms) overlook the pool and the river beyond. If you need a change of scene from your balcony views, descend upon the infinity pool that takes you closer to the river. I’d recommend lounging in the pool towards sunset with a sundowner. Nothing quite beats the views from the upper deck of the Presidential Suites. This one redefines the term ‘Penthouse suite’.

Feliz, on the edge of the pool doesn’t just keep the sundowners coming but also serves authentic Mangalorean and Goan fare. The restaurant serves the best Kori Roti (a quintessential Mangalorean dish where crispy dosa dissolves in a flavourful Chicken curry) in Goa. Comida, the hotel’s all-day diner offers a versatile menu with everything from a Thai green curry to a classic Tiramisu in the mix. The hotel’s well-appointed spa is a great spot to get into chill mode but if you’re a restless traveller (like I am) you’re in the right place.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Goa-Panaji is the closest hotel to Old Goa – a ten-minute drive, allowing you to explore Goa’s most fascinating corner at your own pace. My trail through Old Goa took me beyond the usual pit-stops to the Chapel of our Lady of the Mount with birds-eye views of Old Goa. The reclusive Divar Island with its 300-year old Our Lady of the Piety Church is a short ferry ride away from the hotel. If you need a break from the peace and quiet, you can head to Miramar beach or explore Panjim’s busy streets or F&B scene.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Goa-Panaji offers an engaging experience beyond the stereotypical Goa holiday. If that’s the Goa you want to discover, you will not be disappointed.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Goa-Panaji is on the Kadamba Plateau, Panjim Old Goa Bypass Road, Velha GoaPanaji. It’s a 45-minute drive from the Dabolim Airport. You should be able to score rooms this summer from about Rs 9,000 (excluding taxes).
