The Taj Coromandel’s Sichuan restaurant pulls out all the stops for a special promotion.

Golden Dragon has long been one of Chennai’s premier fine-dining Chinese restaurants. The interiors went through a complete overhaul a few years ago and yet this is still a comfort zone for many of the restaurant’s regulars . One of the many traditions here is a special limited period menu for Chinese New Year. Chef William Ho, the restaurant’s affable master chef from Hong Kong makes sure the restaurant doesn’t break with this tradition.

This limited edition menu is both concise and packed with exquisite signature dishes from Chef Ho’ repertoire. The Prawn Spring Roll is one of these signatures and is easily one of the best ways to begin your meal. There’s also a deep fried carrot dumpling that Chef Ho has specially created for the Chennai audience, this is not a dumpling you’re likely to find in Hong Kong.

The menu is heavy on appetisers – that’s a good thing too. The pan fried lamb cake is one of our favourites from this menu. If you’d rather make a healthy beginning opt for the seaweed and moong bean soup.

Chef Ho’s exemplary noodle-making skills come to the fore with his special ‘Chi you Huang lo mein’ – soya marinated soft noodles finished with seasonal vegetables. Scrumptious. It works equally well with the seasonal mushrooms with bamboo shoots or the Shanghai style fish with beansprouts. Chef Ho isn’t shy to experiment outside his comfort zone. The ginger candy and strawberry ice cream is a case in point. This innovative home-made ice cream incorporates after meal ginger candy bits with a classic strawberry ice cream. An absolute must try.

The Chinese New Year promotion is on for lunch and dinner until Friday, February 15, 2019.
