Coimbatore’s newest luxury hotel has a lot going for it including a stellar location

A Milagrow Robot is the first thing that captures my attention even before I walk into my assigned room at Coimbatore’s newest luxury address. This robotic carpet vacuum cleaner is one of the many contemporary touches in a hotel that has its eyes clearly set on the millennial traveller. The rooms have an intuitive App that is baked into the large screen TVs while the hotel’s Cotton Bar (scheduled to open shortly) will put the focus on high energy craft cocktails and trendy gins.

WelcomHotel is clear evidence that Indian hospitality majors are waking up to a 2010s reality. The solo Indian business traveller has got younger – not just in terms of median age but also in the mind and is certainly more well heeled. This traveller doesn’t like surprises and yet loves them. Shocks are not welcome when it comes to in-room technology or service efficiency. We all have multiple devices that need to be charged overnight and having to disconnect a night lamp for that extra charging point doesn’t cut it. It’s one of the many finer details that this hotel addresses; we would like to see Bluetooth Speakers in the rooms too. Speaking of the overnight recharge, the WelcomHotel takes a good night’s sleep quite seriously. There’s a pillow menu with a choice of pillow types to ensure you don’t compromise on your sleep.

Local experiences; this is where the 2010s traveller loves surprises. Business travellers no longer want to spend weekends or a day off (during a business trip)  holed up in their rooms or aimlessly floating in an infinity pool. WelcomHotel’s Coimbatore connection starts with the interiors. Almost every interior design element makes a connection with the city’s glorious textile heritage. We particularly love the abstract images across the hotel and the vibrant use of colours in the F&B spaces. The hotel has a host of specially curated local experiences that include a trip to Pollachi or a visit to Coimbatore’s busy Ukkadam market.

No local experience is complete without food; WelcomCafe Kovai, the hotel’s all-day diner has a smattering of International and Pan-Indian signatures but it’s some of the regional cuisine that truly hit the spot. It’s a combination of the simple things like fluffy multi-grain dosas or the hotel’s trademark soft idlis – this is India’s cotton city after all, and the more exotic. The kayir karti kola urundai is an absolute must try – mutton balls that melt in your mouth. The WelcomHotel Coimbatore backs the bold 2010s vision for an Indian hotel brand with a seamless guest experience. The hotel’s location in one of the city’s finest addresses – Race Course Road, is the icing on the cake.
