Sail through the summer with some of the most refreshing gentlemen’s scents of the season

John Varvatos Artisan Acqua – our ‘go to’ summer scent  this year: John Varvatos stands out for crafting handmade scents in small batches. Our unconditional love for this perfume begins with the flacon – enrobed in hand-stitched rope.  The scent’s invigorating citrusy pomelo and mandarin orange top notes set the tone followed by a blend of florals and spices with everything from lavender to coriander to basil in the mix. Sillage might be average but there are few scents that can lift your spirits on a hot day like this refreshing scent can.  (Rs 5570/125 ml & Rs 4140/75 ml)

Prada Luna Rossa Sport – for that long summer’s drive: perfect if you need an extra dose of energy to match the raw power of your favourite set of wheels. The Luna Rosa (Red or Blushing moon in Italian) line is inspired by Prada’s yachting team that has enjoyed success in the America’s Cup. This scent housed in a red and silver flacon, is packed with high energy ingredients like ginger and juniper berries that are complemented by the sweet vibe of vanilla and lavender.  (Rs 5600/100 ml)

Kenzo Totem Blue – for a night on the town :  part of a trio of unisex scents (there’s also orange and yellow in this trio) crafted for a Totem ‘tribe’ – personalities from around the world. The truly distinctive bottle (sculpted by Japanese design firm Nendo) might remind you of a dumbbell or a Maori talisman. Fruity notes reign supreme in this scent with a strong accent on citrus (orange and lemon) that combine with cardamom and caramel to create a truly explosive scent. Bold enough for the dance floor. (Rs 3100 / 50 ml)

Issey Eau Fraiche for a day at the office when you’d rather be at your favourite beach resort:  a contemporary reinterpration of Issey Miyake’s classic scent (that debuted in 1994) that we still love. This evergreen woody aquatic scent doesn’t alter the winning formula too much – citrus (grapefruit, bergamot) spices and florals with an intense musk finish. It may not last as long as the original but is crisp and much easier to wear. It can lift your spirits on a hot, dreary Monday at work. (Rs 5000/100 ml)

Trussardi Blue Land for that beach party: this icy cool scent is a follow up to Trussardi’s 2012 perfume – My Land. The sky blue bottle is wrapped in blue leather; it certainly sets this scent apart in a crowd of aquatic scents. Blue Land makes a big first impression with a brilliant blend of bitter orange and fresh green apple. Other notes in the mix include ginger, marine heart accords,  suede and vetiver. Merits attention even if you don’t actually make it for an afternoon party this summer. (Rs 5185/ 100 ml).
