Where to head for Bangalore’s most scrumptious Churros
The lowdown: Most UB City regulars might remember Sancho’s, the Mexican chain that dished out mean Margheritas with delicious Mexican fare. Sancho’s is now Sanchez and thankfully it’s more than just a new signage.
The space: part al-fresco, part indoors, Sanchez rubs shoulders with UB City’s other popular restaurants. We dig the interiors; they haven’t been altered much as part of the makeover. Warm, friendly yet still elegant enough for that dinner date or a meal with your overseas office counterparts. We prefer the indoor space with the showstopper lights.
The grub: if guac is your scene you will love how the Sanchez culinary team crafts fresh guacamole live at the edge of your table with charred corn and black beans. It’s probably the best way to kickstart your meal, once your Margherita reaches your table (Try the Kiwi or the classic). The restaurant hunts high and low for the perfect avocados and their guac totally justifies the effort. The other standout dish is their Ceviche. We are not big fans of Sanchez’s Poblano Chicken Mole Taquitos – Chocolate with chicken is clearly not for everyone. Our other recos are the beer-battered fish taquitos and the fiery habanero cottage cheese – strictly for those who can handle the extra spice. Chef Vikas Seth is mighty proud of the restaurant’s signature dessert – the Tres Leches Cake. But we think he ought to be equally chuffed about their churros with oozing chocolate, arguably the best in town.
Last word: Authentic? We are not entirely sure. That’s the deal with Tex Mex, purists be damned; it is a cuisine that is open to interpretation. The service is switched on, the ambience more than works and the food has more hits than misses. It helps that their desserts hit the spot; sometimes last impressions make a bigger impact!
