At a time when ‘Censored’ is a dirty word, अन्नCensored hits all the right notes
Imagine a dining space that is drunk on testosterone and decidedly quirky. The show plates are broken, some of the dining chairs swing and cocktails also come in bags reminiscent of ‘drip’ bags in a hospital. Yes, this new night spot (we’re sure it will be in the mix for team lunches and heck even kitty lunches) is not shy to push the limits and almost rubs shoulders with another foodie magnet – Bombay Canteen, in Lower Parel’s Lakshmi Mills compound.
It’s actually three distinct spaces that include a somewhat quieter space on the ground level with cool log cabin style seating (ideal for those quiet dinner dates) and a wolfpack-friendly basement area where mixologists and DJs (who mix things up) compete.
There are two menus, the Censored version where the food stays in the same zone – mostly International fare, and the Uncensored version full of tweaks and irreverent Indian cuisine. The Butter Chicken Croquetas are the pick of the starters – a burst of flavours and textures, while the Three Melon salad is worth checking out too. The Mutton Shanks (Almost in the Old Delhi league) with Berry Pulao is the standout main. We wrapped up things with the orange cheesecake. If there’s one crib, it’s the sheer volume of options (tougher when you have to ‘toggle’ between two menus). The cocktails (not surprisingly) are the centrepiece of the menu and we’re definitely going back for their version of the Whiskey Sour amongst other things
