Good things come in small packages. Apple unveils the new iPhone SE and a 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro. And this time it won’t take forever to arrive in India
So the rumours were spot on. We have the 4-inch iPhone and a lighter version of the iPad Pro, a new iOS (9.3) version and a minor update to the Watch OS. Here’s your quick cheatsheet
iPhone SE: reminiscent of the iPhone 5S in terms of design language but infinitely better equipped – a processor that’s twice as fast (A9), a 12MP cam with Live Photos, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, a 4-inch screen and a choice of 16GB and 64GB versions. Apple has confirmed that the device will reach India ‘early April’ with a price tag of 39,000 (For the 16GB version). That’s disappointing given the US price is $399/499 (16/64 GB)
iPad Pro 9.7-inch: it’s the same 4GB of RAM and lightning fast A9X processor . What’s more the iPad pencil works on it and it’s got better rear (12 MP) and front facing (5MP) cams. There’s also a new True tone display (automatically adjusts colour temperature based on the room environment). The device comes in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB versions. Apple claims the same battery life for both iPad Pros. But there’s one key difference; the 9.7-inch version will certainly be quicker to charge. Again, Apple has confirmed early April for India with a price tag starting Rs 49,900 (32GB)
iOS 9.3: Brilliant new Night Shift option that tones down the colours (Based on your Geo location) of the device making it easier on the eyes. The Health App has better features and so does the News App. It’s one of the biggest iOS ‘bump ups’ we’ve seen for a while
Watch OS 2.2: not the ‘rad’ upgrade we were hoping for. Updated Maps feature and support for multiple watches from a single iPhone. Aside from newer bands, Apple has dropped the price of the 38mm Apple Watch Sport to $299 (From $349). No news on India pricing though.
